FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Contact:Nick Volpe Sculptures Embody The Works Of Renaissance Masters
Succasunna, NJ -- August
12, 2004 --I have traveled throughout old European countries and have marveled at the
works of the old world masters, Donatello, Michelangelo, Raphael and others. Often I wished I could have brought some of these
works back to decorate the walls of my own home or garden.
Well, I recently discovered a group of individuals who have dedicated their
talents to recreating some of these works for all to acquire. The folks from Design Master
Associates and Facsimilies have put together what I feel is a great collection of home
décor wall sculptures based on old world paintings and carvings. Some of the sculptures you may recognize from your own travels or
viewings from books and magazines. One thing is for certain; you will not be disappointed
in the quality of these museum grade reproductions. Not all of the sculptures have been recreated from the old world
masters; the folks at Facsimilies have used their talents in creative ways. Their source of inspiration may surprise you. An
idea can come from many different places, such as your own backyard. When I was a kid (some may say that I still am), I use to ride my
bicycle through cemeteries. No, not because I was weird, but rather it offered a place of
serenity and I would love to look at the old statues or carvings on headstones. Some of
the works found there are quite impressive. Facsimilies has recreated some of its carvings from head stones found
in cemeteries in the New England. You would be amazed at the sources of inspiration that
exist in such places. What may have otherwise been lost to the world has now been
immortalized in some of their reproductions. The stories they tell can captivate the heart
and imagination. One sculpture, from a grave in Plymouth, MA, commemorates the story of
William Churchill who lost his life aboard the sailing ship, Plymouth Rock, while in route
to Rochelle, France (1846). Facsimilies produces sculptures in a variety of themes. Select from
the categories of Angels, Art Nouveau, Celestial, Egyptian, Gargoyles, Renaissance,
Victorian, Roman, and Greek, to name a few. There is no doubt that you will come across a
category of interest that suits your home décor.
With each piece of artwork comes an official authenticity card
(slightly larger than a business card) that describes the sculpture, history and period
dating. Youre getting the artwork and the history that is behind it as well. The
card can be framed and hung along side the sculpture for all to see and be informed, just
like in the museums. The sculptures are made out of a durable material that provides the
type and quality deserving of such artwork. The material is called hydrostone, which is a
gypsum (USG) product. For all you chemistry buffs, its made from a combination of
calcium sulfate hemihydrate (plaster of Paris), portland cement and crystalline silica.
You can check out more information about gypsum and its other uses at www.usg.com. Its not suitable for outdoor use. Some reproductions are available in a variety of finishes; bronze,
ivory, pewter, slate, marble and antique gold are some of the available looks. My favorite
finish is the antique gold as seen on the sculptures of St. Cecelia and Scipio, the Elder.
About the artist, Jay W. Hungate trained at the Massachusetts College
of Arts and has worked in many types of materials, bronze, resins, clay and stone, to name
a few. In the past he has worked with skilled artisans of Carrara, Italy, practicing the
age-old tradition of carving marble. Currently, Jay and his studio have been working in
cements and hydrostone. The inspirations for his designs, as seen in the Facsimilies
sculptures, stem from his interests in Gothic architecture and classic statuary.
Bibliographical information regarding the artist was obtained from Facsimilies. Reasonably priced starting from $20.00, these works of art offer an
inexpensive way to furnish your wall spaces with museum quality artwork. You will discover
sizes to fit any area in your home. At these
prices, they also make truly wonderful and inexpensive gifts for occasions like house
warmings, showers, weddings, birthdays, and anniversaries. Nick Volpe is always searching for unique artifacts created from the imagination of the human spirit.
