Artists Wildlife Sculptures Inspire A Natural Serenity

Succasunna, NJ - June 4, 2004 - We all suffer from not having the time to sit back and enjoy this thing we call life. There is barely a moment taken to enjoy the natural world all around us anymore. There is a way, however, for you to enjoy the natural wonders without venturing far from your front steps. I recently came across an artist's work of sculptured art that replicates the beauty of nature and preserves it for all to enjoy. These sculptures capture nature in the wild, co-existing with the human world. In some instances this co-existence provides a welcome environment, in others, a sharp contradiction.

With construction swallowing up more of our natural wild areas each year, it becomes harder for our wildlife to seek refuge.  One species, however, has made the best of this situation, co-existing with humans as best they can.  Birds have been around for a very long time, with no indication they plan on leaving.  They nest in the most opportune places.  The artists from Overboard Art have done a brilliant job in recreating our fine-feathered friends nesting homes for all of us to enjoy. 

These works of art, which adorn the homes and galleries of both the private and public sectors, are reproduced from carved or sculptured originals. High standards ensure that the replicas are near identical to the original.  After the moldings are casted, they undergo a labor-intensive process that requires an artist’s patience and skill.

The highest grade of material resins, used in sculptures, is utilized to ensure that the artwork will give you a lifetime of enjoyment under normal care. Waterproof paints similar to the type used on decoys designed to be thrown overboard, provide a durable finish.  Overboard Art derived its name when the art of decoy carvings developed to the point of being too valuable to throw overboard.

The limited editions come with a Certificate of Authenticity, numbered and complete with the artists signature stamp.  Each is cast in permanent resins and hand painted by artists using waterproof acrylics, making them suitable for the outdoors. I would personally keep them protected from the fading powers of the sun.

The artists at Overboard Art have recreated this encounter in remarkable detail, right down to the simulated wood bark of the tree; available in a variety of species, such as a redheaded woodpecker, an eastern bluebird, or a black-capped chickadees to name a few.  Included in the cost, is a decorative weathered sign affixed to the tree. You can choose from one of the following signs, a target practice sign over the knothole, a “House for Sale”, or a  “No Hunting” sign.  Each are sized approximately 10”W x 12”H x 2.5”D.

One of my favorites, the Caretakers Collection, was inspired by an actual event that had happened to the artist. On one of his wandering walks he came upon an abandoned farmhouse that was in the process of being taken back by nature. Much to his surprise, a family of wrens had taken up nesting in the spring house.  A knothole in the siding secured passage to an abode safe from the elements, which fueled the inspiration for this collection. These sculptures are both a testament to nature’s ability to coexist in our world and they are a tribute to our winged friends. They replicate the brick and wood siding of a barn and are approximately 18”W x 23”H x 4” D.

The Mates Collection is designed to be special and unique and can be personalized with initials or words of your choosing. You can choose from having yours and a loved ones initials carved into the siding or some other special message. Up to six letters are included in the cost of the sculpture. More letters can be added for an additional cost.
